Urbanité

Introduction
………………….
Photography for me begins with my personal experience and perceptions as a woman within a social context. I am interested in an imagery rooted in the specificity of our physical landscape and social environments.
My camera looks not up nor down, nor at strangers casually viewed, but around… the main focus continues to be the people / friends of my community who participate with me in the image-making process – here in urban / public spaces: Oct 2000 World March of Women in Montreal, a roof-top garden in New York and Sunday morning in a Toronto park.
Each of my projects leads to the next, as I dig deeper into the themes and currents of my work: from Relations and Giving Birth is Just the Beginning: Women Speak about Mothering / Donner naissance n’est qu’un début : les femmes parlent de maternité in the 1980s to “One in five…” and The 50s / La Cinquantaine in the 90s. Urbanité is a step on the way.
